Nikon’s Z6 and Z7 (check latest price here) come with a new battery, dubbed EN-EL15B. It’s an updated version of the venerable EN-EL15A, used in D610, D850, and similar models. The new battery features the same capacity as the old one and is mechanically identical – both types can be used interchangeably. The one thing that’s new with 15B is the built-in electronics, we’ll get to that in a moment.
Also supplied with the camera is a matching charger (MH-25a) that will charge a depleted battery in two and a half hours. The charger requires a wall outlet:
The updated electronics in the new EN-EL15B allow charging the battery in camera via USB – a first for an ILC by Nikon.
Power can come from a USB charger or a power bank and is supplied to the camera via the USB-C port. Charging is indicated by a little red LED (arrow); once the battery is charged, the LED will turn off:
