Optics manufacturer Meike has announced a new manual 25mm lens for a range of APS-C mirrorless systems. The special feature is the enormous aperture of F0.95.
The ultra-fast lens offers a full-frame equivalent focal length of 38mm, making it a moderate wide-angle. The optics consists of eleven elements in nine groups; the 13-blade aperture covers an aperture range of F0.95 to F16.
The minimum focusing distance of the lens is 25cm. Front filters can be attached via a 62mm thread. As usual, Meike is quite tight-lipped when it comes to other technical details, but at least reveals that the hunk of glass weighs about 660g. Quite a handful for a 25er.
The lens runs completely manually, i.e. there is no auto focus, only stopped-down aperture measurement, and no data transmission to the camera for lack of contacts. Focusing in particular will probably be challenging with fully opened aperture, despite the short focal length.
The lens is available for Canon EOS M, Canon EOS RF, Fujifilm X, Micro Four Thirds, Nikon Z and Sony E-mount camera systems. The E-mount version is the only one available now, while the others will follow in a few weeks. On a full-frame camera some vignetting is to be expected.
Pricing is unknown for now but to be expected in the $300-350 range. Meike / Voking lenses are available from Amazon.
