Usually, the Las Vegas CES ist not that interesting for photographers; the show is mostly focused on consumer electronics like TVs, microwave ovens and the like. Nevertheless, Panasonic sent out an invitation to journalists that puts the new full frame cameras Lumix S1 and Lumix S1R in the center.
The motto is “Full frame without compromise”:
The poster doesn’t tell much, details are scarce. The background image (Antelope Canyon, by the looks of it) was shot with a Lumix S1R and the Lumix S 24-105mm. As far as we know, this is the only native lens for the L-Mount at the moment. Panasonic is expected to release more glass this year and 2020. If you want more variety, the only option until then are Leica’s SL lenses for which prices start at eye-watering $4.000. Sigma is the third member of the L-Mount alliance but has still to make any concrete announcements.
Not much is known about the specs of the two cameras. The available data comes from the official presentation at last years Photokina:
Let’s hope for more specs and prices for both L-Mount cameras in the coming week. Failing that, the next opportunity will be CP+ 2019 in Yokohama in late February although there’s speculation that an official announcement may come as soon as end of January.
