Sigma today announced the first batch of lenses for the L-Mount. Eleven exsiting Art lenses will receive the new mount; the focal lengths range from 14 to 135mm. Users of Panasonic’s S1 and S1R will instantly benefit from a much larger and more affordable selection of lenses: Leica’s offerings are eye-wateringly expensive and Panasonic’s roadmap for the next two years concentrates on zooms:
1. Optimized AF for L-Mount
With the AF drive control program and high-speed communication tuned for each lens, shooting at speed with high-precision AF control is achieved. The lenses also support the AF-C mode.
2. Compatible with in-camera image stabilization
Compatible with in-camera image stabilization, the camera automatically detects the focal length of each lens and optimizes image stabilization performance.
3. Data pre-loaded for compatibility with in-camera aberration correction
Fully compatible with in-camera aberration correction (corrections for peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations, and distortion). By matching corrections to the optical characteristics of the lens, this function takes image quality to an even higher level.
Like with Sigma’s offerings for Sony E-Mount, the new lenses are basically existring DSLR lenses with an integrated adapter that compensates the difference in flange distance; image shows the 35mm F1.4 Art with L-Mount (top) compared to the same lens for Nikon F (bottom):
Sigma currently plans to convert the following lenses:
Pricing and availability are still TBD.
