While the results seem to be clearly better than traditional “digital zooms”, a final verdict would require still images in full resolution. Oppo uses a periscope design (illustrated above) and, presumably, also some additional processing to achieve this result.
It’s currently unknown which smartphone will be the first to use Oppo’s technology. More details are expected at this year’s MWC which begins on Sunday.

Large 1" sensor and 10x Leica lens make the ZS100 / TZ101 the perfect travel zoom.
4K Video, panos and a 60x zoom, combined with Pannys Post Focus in a portable package.
Grading up from a smartphone or compact? Then the Rebel T6 / 1300D might be for you.
APS-C DSLR for discriminating amateurs. With articulated screen and dedicated microphone port.
Best-selling mirrorless ILC with APS-C sized sensor and speedy AF. Currently at bargain prices.
APS-C ILC with 4K video, sensible feature set and nice EVF. Vast selection of lenses via adapter.
First gen. RX100 with 4x Zeiss lens. Still our standing recommendation, especially when on offer.
Posh compact with 1" sensor and very bright 4x zoom. Pocketable and with good manual controls.
Best feature and sensor set in any outdoor camera bar none, combined with clever software.
New in 2018 with 4K 60p support and improved stabilizer. Still the mother of all action cams.
